What is the DataGrout ClickUp MCP Server?

The DataGrout ClickUp MCP Server is a native Model Context Protocol server that turns a ClickUp workspace into callable tools for AI agents. Agents read and write tasks, documents, goals, views, comments and time entries through one governed endpoint, while DataGrout enforces side-effect policy and runs Warden preflight before a call reaches your workspace.

162 tools reviewed and versioned by DataGrout

Read and write allowed, scoped by your policy

One OAuth2 connection inherited by every agent

162 ClickUp tools, grouped by the work they do

Public pages group the tools by the work they support. The full inventory โ€” every tool, its parameters and its side effect โ€” lives in your signed-in workspace, so you can review exactly what you expose.

Tasks and subtasks

Create, retrieve and update work items inside any list, with the full detail an agent needs to act.

  • Create tasks by list, with assignees, status and priority
  • Full task detail lookup by task ID
  • Update existing tasks in place
  • Comment on tasks and threads from agent runs

Workspace structure

Walk the whole hierarchy โ€” workspaces, spaces, folders and lists โ€” and change any level of it.

  • Discover every authorized workspace
  • Retrieve the complete workspace hierarchy
  • Create and update spaces, folders and lists
  • Move work between lists without breaking context

Docs, goals and views

Keep the written side of ClickUp in step with the work: documents, goals and saved views.

  • Create documents inside a workspace
  • Goals and goal progress
  • Create board, calendar, table, timeline, workload, Gantt, chat and map views
  • Update view definitions as team conventions change

Time tracking

Tracked time is where agent work becomes billable โ€” agents can record and correct it.

  • Create time entries against a task
  • Update or correct existing entries
  • Retrieve tracked time per task
  • Keep entry descriptions consistent for reporting

Chat and collaboration

Agent work rarely stops at the task record; channels and comments carry the reasoning.

  • Create chat channels by location
  • Read and update comments
  • Webhooks for monitoring workspace events
  • Threaded discussion retrieval

Workspace administration

The structural pieces an agent needs to file work correctly the first time.

  • Authorized workspace and member lookups
  • Space and folder metadata
  • Custom field values on tasks
  • Hierarchy-aware task placement

Connect ClickUp in four steps

Everything happens in the DataGrout Hub โ€” no code, no per-agent configuration.

  1. 1

    Open your Hub Server

In DataGrout, open the Hub Server that will carry your integrations and click Add Integration.

  2. 2

    Find ClickUp

Search for ClickUp, then select the native MCP Server integration.

  3. 3

    Authorize

Sign in with ClickUp using DataGrout-managed credentials or your own app credentials. mTLS is optional.

  4. 4

    Select tools and set policy

Expose only the tools you need, then set side-effect and Warden policy for this integration.

Authentication

  • OAuth2

Sign in with your ClickUp account. Use DataGrout-managed credentials or bring your own ClickUp app credentials.

  • mTLS (Mutual TLS)

Optional transport-level client identity, used on its own or on top of the OAuth2 connection.

What agents get back

Responses come back as structured data the model can reason over, with optional inline DataGrout metadata so a run can be traced afterwards.

  • Structured task, doc and view payloads
  • Optional estimate-only calls that return credit cost without executing
  • Per-call receipt and execution summary
  • Auto-pagination on list-style tools

Governance on every ClickUp call

The server ships with the same layered policy engine as every DataGrout integration. Security teams set the posture once; every agent inherits it.

Side-effect controls

Read and write are available. Side effects are governed by your policy, set per integration and inherited from the Hub Server above it.

PII and destructive access

Destructive operations and PII access are separate policy switches, so an agent can file tasks without ever touching personal data.

Warden preflight

Every ClickUp call can pass through Warden first โ€” Off, Log only, Advisory or Enforce โ€” blocking a suspicious request before it reaches your workspace.

Policy inheritance

Integration policy inherits from the parent Hub Server and can only get stricter. Child settings, including Warden posture, can never loosen the server.

Observability built in

Every execution can return a receipt, a pre-run credit estimate, a Cognitive Trust Certificate and a full execution summary โ€” so an agent's work on your ClickUp data is always explainable.

What teams run on it

Four patterns that show up again and again once a ClickUp connection is in place.

Daily standup digests

An agent reads the tasks that moved since yesterday across every active list, groups them by owner and status, and posts a digest to chat before the standup starts.

Requests that become tasks

A request arrives in Slack or email. The agent finds the right list, creates a fully populated task with assignee and due date, and links back to the original thread.

Time tracking hygiene

The agent flags completed tasks with no time entries, backfills entries from work logs, and lists unbilled time by client for the week.

Docs that stay current

ClickUp docs drift. An agent reads a projectโ€™s task history and comments, then drafts or updates the project doc so the written record matches the work.

ClickUp MCP Server FAQ

Through OAuth2. You authorize ClickUp once in the DataGrout Hub using either DataGrout-managed credentials or your own ClickUp app credentials, and every agent on that Hub inherits the connection. mTLS is available as an additional transport-level control.

Connect ClickUp to your agents

Add the ClickUp MCP Server to your DataGrout Hub and let agents file, update and report on work with the same governance as every other system you connect.
