What is the DataGrout Trello MCP Server?

The DataGrout Trello MCP Server is a native Model Context Protocol server that exposes Trello as callable tools for AI agents. Agents can read boards and lists, create and update cards, comment, assign members, work with checklists, labels and custom fields, manage workspace members, set up webhooks and request board exports, all through one governed endpoint that enforces side-effect policy and runs Warden preflight on every call.

206 Trello tools, grouped by the work they do

Trello work lives in cards, so most of the tools revolve around them. The groups below follow how a board is actually used; the full inventory is in your signed-in workspace.

Boards and lists

Understand the structure of a board and shape it as work changes.

  • Board details, fields, lists, labels, members and memberships
  • Create lists, update them, and archive or unarchive
  • Move a list to another board
  • Board preferences for sidebar and email-to-board settings

Cards

The unit of work. Create it, move it, assign it and keep it current.

  • Create cards in a list with name and description
  • Update name, description, list, members, labels, due and start dates
  • Archive a card, or all cards in a list
  • Move all cards from one list to another

Comments, attachments and votes

The conversation and evidence around a card.

  • Create and update card comments
  • Attach links and files by URL
  • Add stickers and reactions
  • Add a memberโ€™s vote to a card

Checklists and custom fields

Structured detail that turns a card into a trackable piece of work.

  • Create checklists and items, optionally copying an existing one
  • Update item state, due date and position
  • Create custom fields and dropdown options
  • Update custom field values on a card

Labels, members and workspaces

Who is involved and how the work is categorised.

  • Create and update labels, and attach them to cards
  • Add members to cards and boards, or invite by email
  • Create and update workspaces and member types
  • Deactivate or reactivate a workspace member

Notifications, search, webhooks and exports

Awareness and integration: what is new, what matches, and where to send events.

  • Read and mark notifications as read
  • Search members, cards, boards and workspaces
  • Create and update webhooks
  • Board and workspace exports, with attachments optional

Connect Trello in four steps

Everything happens in the DataGrout Hub โ€” no code, no per-agent configuration.

  1. 1

    Open your Hub Server

In DataGrout, open the Hub Server that will carry your integrations and click Add Integration.

  2. 2

    Find Trello

Search for Trello, then select the native MCP Server integration.

  3. 3

    Authorize

Connect through Trello OAuth using DataGrout credentials or your own application keys. mTLS is optional.

  4. 4

    Select tools and set policy

Expose the board and card tools the agent needs, then set side-effect and Warden policy.

Authentication

  • OAuth2

Choose DataGrout credentials or your own application keys, then click Connect to start the account connection.

  • mTLS (Mutual TLS)

Optional transport-level client identity, used alone or on top of the OAuth2 connection.

What agents get back

Trello responses include the identifiers an agent needs to chain calls: board, list and card IDs, along with the labels, members and dates that describe the work.

  • Cards with list, board, labels, members and due dates
  • Checklist items with completion state
  • Action history with creator and timestamp
  • Receipt and execution summary per call

Governance on every Trello call

The server ships with the same layered policy engine as every DataGrout integration. Security teams set the posture once; every agent inherits it.

Side-effect controls

Read and write are available. Side effects are governed by your policy, set per integration and inherited from the Hub Server above it.

PII and destructive access

PII access and destructive operations are separate policy switches, so you decide what an agent may reach. Member and email details are returned by several read tools.

Warden preflight

Card text is written by many people. Warden screens every call in Off, Log only, Advisory or Enforce mode before it executes.

Policy inheritance

Integration policy inherits from the Hub Server and can only get stricter, Warden posture included. A child integration never weakens its parent.

Observability built in

Every execution can return a receipt, a pre-run credit estimate, a Cognitive Trust Certificate and a full execution summary โ€” so an agent's work on your Trello data is always explainable.

Trust certificate (CTC)

What teams run on it

Four patterns that show up again and again once a Trello connection is in place.

Request intake to cards

Turn emails, forms or chat requests into cards with the right list, labels, due date and assignee, and a checklist for the standard steps.

Board standups

An agent reads each list, finds overdue and stalled cards, and posts a short status with the cards that need a decision.

Board hygiene

Archive done cards in bulk, tidy labels, and fill missing custom fields, with every change recorded in the receipt.

Reporting and export

Pull actions and card data for a period, request a board export when someone needs a snapshot, and send a summary to stakeholders.

Trello MCP Server FAQ

Through OAuth2. You connect once in the DataGrout Hub using DataGrout credentials or your own application keys, and every agent on that Hub inherits the connection. mTLS can be layered on top.

Connect Trello to your agents

Add the Trello MCP Server to your DataGrout Hub and let agents keep boards current, cards moving and teams informed, with governance on every change.
