What is the DataGrout SendGrid MCP Server?

The DataGrout SendGrid MCP Server is a native Model Context Protocol server that exposes a SendGrid account as callable tools for AI agents. Agents can inspect and configure authenticated domains and branded links, manage transactional templates and designs, set up event webhooks, maintain suppression groups, adjust mail and tracking settings, and read engagement and geography statistics, all through one governed endpoint that enforces side-effect policy and runs Warden preflight on every call.

73 tools across authentication, templates, webhooks and settings

Deliverability reporting: engagement quality scores and geographic stats

Read and write allowed, scoped by your policy

73 SendGrid tools, grouped by the work they do

This server is built for managing and monitoring a SendGrid account, not for composing messages. The tools are grouped by the job an operator would do; the full inventory is in your signed-in workspace.

Domain authentication and branded links

The setup work that decides whether mail lands in the inbox, from creation through validation.

  • Create authenticated domains and request validation
  • Create branded links and validate them
  • Update default status and custom SPF settings
  • Read the default domain authentication and default branded link

Templates and designs

Reusable email building blocks, readable and editable by an agent that knows your style.

  • Create legacy or dynamic transactional templates
  • Create and partially update designs
  • Read design details including HTML, plain content and subject
  • List all templates and designs

Event webhooks

Wire delivery events to your own systems and keep the configuration under review.

  • Create event webhooks with per-event toggles
  • Update webhook settings and signature verification
  • Read signed webhook public key details
  • Create test event notification settings

Suppression groups

Keep unsubscribe handling tidy so agents never have to guess which list a person is on.

  • Create and update suppression groups
  • Set the default suppression group
  • List all groups or read one by ID
  • Pair with deliverability review for list hygiene

Mail and tracking settings

The account-wide switches that shape every message, readable in one place and adjustable under policy.

  • Footer, bounce purge, forward bounce and forward spam settings
  • Address allowlist and legacy template settings
  • Open, click, subscription and Google Analytics tracking
  • Enforced TLS: require TLS, valid certificate and version

Reporting, batches and account

Evidence for deliverability conversations, plus the account context behind it.

  • Engagement quality scores by date range, for the account and subusers
  • Email statistics by country and state or province
  • Request an email activity CSV and create mail batch IDs
  • Teammates, alerts, API key scopes and account information

Connect SendGrid in four steps

Everything happens in the DataGrout Hub โ€” no code, no per-agent configuration.

  1. 1

    Create a SendGrid API key

In SendGrid, create an API key with only the scopes the agent needs. The scope list is itself readable through the server.

  2. 2

    Open your Hub Server

In DataGrout, open the Hub Server that will carry your integrations and click Add Integration.

  3. 3

Find SendGrid and add the token

Search for SendGrid, select the native MCP Server, choose Access Token (Bearer) and paste the key. mTLS is optional.

  4. 4

    Select tools and set policy

Expose the read and reporting tools first, then set side-effect and Warden policy before enabling settings changes.

Authentication

  • Access Token (Bearer)

Paste a SendGrid API key as the access token. Scope the key in SendGrid to limit what any tool can do, in addition to DataGrout policy.

  • mTLS (Mutual TLS)

Optional transport-level client identity, used alone or on top of the bearer token.

What agents get back

SendGrid responses are shaped for agents: the identifiers, status fields and settings values needed for the next call, without raw API clutter.

  • Domain authentication status and record properties
  • Template, design and webhook identifiers for follow-up calls
  • Settings values and enabled state, ready to compare
  • Receipt and execution summary per call

Governance on every SendGrid call

The server ships with the same layered policy engine as every DataGrout integration. Security teams set the posture once; every agent inherits it.

Side-effect controls

Read and write are available. Side effects are governed by your policy, set per integration and inherited from the Hub Server above it.

PII and destructive access

PII access and destructive operations are separate policy switches, so you decide what an agent may reach. Relevant because teammate and account tools return personal details.

Warden preflight

Warden screens every call in Off, Log only, Advisory or Enforce mode, a useful check before an agent changes enforced TLS or tracking settings.

Policy inheritance

Integration policy inherits from the Hub Server and can only get stricter, Warden posture included. A child integration never weakens its parent.

Observability built in

Every execution can return a receipt, a pre-run credit estimate, a Cognitive Trust Certificate and a full execution summary โ€” so an agent's work on your SendGrid data is always explainable.

What teams run on it

Four patterns that show up again and again once a SendGrid connection is in place.

Deliverability checkups

An agent reads domain authentication, branded links, enforced TLS and engagement quality scores, then reports what is misconfigured and what to fix first.

Template audits

Review every transactional template and design for outdated copy, missing plain text or subject lines, and open a clear change list for the owner.

Webhook setup and review

Create an event webhook for a new service, confirm signature verification is on, and keep a record of which events each endpoint receives.

Reporting for stakeholders

Pull engagement scores and geographic statistics into a weekly summary, and request an activity CSV when someone needs the underlying rows.

SendGrid MCP Server FAQ

With an access token. You paste a SendGrid API key into the DataGrout Hub as a bearer token, and every agent on that Hub inherits the connection. mTLS can be layered on top.

Connect SendGrid to your agents

Add the SendGrid MCP Server to your DataGrout Hub and let agents audit, configure and report on your email infrastructure, with governance on every change.
